Local Government Political Restrictions Exemptions Adjudicator for Scotland

Home

Welcome to the website of the Local Government Political Restrictions Exemptions Adjudicator for Scotland.

The LGPRE Adjudicator for Scotland is an independent person appointed by Scottish Ministers to adjudicate in cases relating to the imposition of political restrictions on employees of local authorities in Scotland. If the holder of a politically restricted post under any Scottish local authority considers that the post should not be politically restricted, he or she may apply to the Adjudicator to have the post reclassified.

On 31 October 2016 the Adjudicator issued new Guidance for Local Authorities in the Identification of Politically Restricted Posts, replacing earlier Guidance. The Guidance is intended to be of use both to local authorities and to any individual likely to be affected by the imposition of political restrictions. It contains information on how an individual may apply for adjudication. It may be downloaded from the Publications page.

The Adjudicator is committed to ensuring that the adjudication procedure is as accessible as possible. Please contact the Adjudicator if you have any specific requirements (for example, if you need correspondence from the Adjudicator to be provided in a specific format, such as Braille or large print).

The Adjudicator is happy to receive feedback on this website. If you have comments or queries please contact him as indicated below.
